The night was a very pleasant lots of things to listen to and look at. One problem that existed with the night was that many of the artists, filmmakers and musicians were not present and when present people were not encouraged to engage with the them. I feel that Australian artists often hide behind the phrase “that the work speaks for itself” and this for me is a rather disturbing. The audience should be encouraged to express what they think about an artists work. Many of these projects have been made as a direct result of government grants; this is the people’s money, let the people tell the artist what they think.
